Ruby Baker, Owner The Pilates Place

Hi I'm Ruby Baker owner and founder of The Pilates Place. I started working in the fitness industry teaching aerobics and personal training in the early 1990’s, after receiving my aerobics and personal training certifications at Mission College in Santa Clara, CA. Before opening the Pilates Place I worked as an Information Technology business consultant. After personally experiencing the benefits of Pilates I knew that my love of fitness and my experience in business would finally come together. I was certified as a Pilates instructor in 2002 and loved teaching the Pilates method so much I decided to open The Pilates Place in 2003.
I also work as a business consultant for Pilates and Yoga studios helping other studio owners run a profitable and successful business.

As a former indoor and outdoor soccer player as well as a road cyclist, I focus on functional and strength training while maintaining a strong, controlled core. I have been practicing Pilates since 2006 and have been instructing since 2008. I currently hold a personal training certificate through AFAA, reformer and mat pilates certificates through The Pilates Coach, and a spinning certificate with Maddog Athletics. I am trained in PiYo, a fusion of yoga and pilates as well as the balance ball to add a little variety. Currently, I am working on a Bachelors degree in Health Ecology and hope to continue on to graduate school for a masters degree in physical therapy. Most of my spare time is spend riding on the road with my Cannondale bike and training for a metric century in the upcoming summer.

After just two reformer pilates classes I was feeling great and even sleeping better. I was so impressed with what reformer pilates did for me that I decided to ger certified to teach it to others. My purpose and passion is to help eveyone in my class to achieve a better level of fitness for a better life.
